Women on Youtube: Laura Lee Reacts to Her Very First Video

So this isn't necessarily a feminist post... but it is by a woman and I think other women can relate to it. It just seems to be something I kind of have struggles with on my own... and I thought it would just be a good thing to share. Beauty Vlogger Laura Lee  just posted a video where she reacted to the first video that she ever filmed on youtube. She was a little embarrassed when she first watched it, she regretted not being more herself in the video... and her reaction got more emotional when she recalled who she was at that time in her life. She was not happy, she didn't have many friends, she had a job that she didn't really want to stay at and she was just looking for something more. She was crying because she wanted to tell her younger self that things would get better for her and she didn't have to be so unhappy because this little video gave her many more amazing opportunities. I can relate to this a lot actually. So many times I get hung up on things in th

Femin-ish News: What Men should Know About the Woman's March, Remembering Mary Tyler Moore, Oscar Nominations

So I think I'm going to call this Femin-ish News because some of it may be very themed on Feminism... while some might just be things women did or accomplished that I think helps society in some way... so yeah... I was just going to make this about the Men's March thing... but then I decided to include some more things... so we're talking about a lot! Men's March I feel stupid even posting this because I'm kind of baffled about this one... but... here you go... Piers Morgan decided to tweet this in response to the Woman's March. Here's what you should do if you are a man feeling "emasculated" by the march... Congratulations! You now know what women feel like every single day. Seriously!?!?!?!?!! The whole reason women are marching is because we feel like our voices aren't being heard. The government has more of a say in a woman's body than the actual woman. That's frightening. I don't really see how it's impending o

Thank you, Joan Rivers

With this blog, I want to thank some women that I think really changed the game in some way shape or form! Joan Rivers is someone that might be controversial to put on this list. A lot of people criticize her for focusing on what women were wearing and judging them on that rather than asking them "important" questions... I seem to remember her often talking to women quite a bit and she definitely asked them more than just the iconic "Who are you wearing?" She was the fashion reporter for the red carpet... so of corse she was going to focus on the fashion aspect of the award ceremony! I'm not really sure what people were expecting from that. Joan rivers was actually the first woman to host a late-night talk show on a major network. I don't think her show lasted long... but a few years later she had a daytime show that won her a Daytime Emmy. Rivers was definitely one of the funniest comedians at a time when there weren't a lot of women comedians. Even

Happy Birthday Bessie Coleman!

So I just saw the Google Doodle and thought hey... why not talk about it here! Bessie Colman was the first woman pilot of African American Descent and the first woman of Native American descent to have a pilot license! She was a Civilian Aviatrix, which I guess was something that they had in the early days of flying where it was mostly stunt-flying and not commercial flying. She performed for paid audiences... the Blue Angels come to mind when I think of that. I've seen them before and that was exciting. Bessie did die in a plane crash. It was an unstable plane, people warned her not to go in it. She didn't wear her seatbelt because she was planning to parachute out of it... but she checked the cockpit to examine the terrain and was thrown from the plane. I've never heard of Bessie Coleman before, very sad that she was just in her early 30s before her tragic death... but that is a great accomplishment for a woman of color back in the 1920s... she actually couldn'

Why Catcalling Isn't Okay, and Why It's Okay Not To Like It

Today I went to the grocery store with my mom and grandmother and while we were checking out, some older man says “Ohhhh, Nice! Young Lady! Have Mercy," to me! I was really pissed!  The thing about catcalling though is that a lot of people kind of make it seem like its less of a big deal than it is and that women should be okay with it… And no one should have to be okay with being catcalled. Here are my reasons:   I wasn’t asking for it  A lot of times people shrug it off and say something like “Well if you dress like that you’re just asking for it.” Nope… I was wearing a sweater… a mock turtleneck actually, jeans, and a large peacoat. This isn’t any different than how I normally dress. I shouldn’t have to modify my dress for my safety… also I’m not sure how I could exactly be wearing anything more reserved. It’s a striped sweater with a slouchy turtleneck… I definitely wasn’t asking for it.  I was wearing makeup… but that’s another thing I do every day. I have a be

Introduction

Welcome to my crazy feminist blog! This is just a thing that I really think we're in need of right now. Feminism had some big milestones in 2016. We got some more Rey toys for Star Wars, there was a Ghostbuster's reboot starring women... ohhh yeah and it was the first time a woman actually ran for president in a major political party! And no matter who you voted for and what the outcome of the election was... it was still a really big deal! I decided to start this blog because I wasn't happy with the outcome of the election. This is probably the most I will talk about politics on this blog... unless I think it is absolutely relevant. Okay... might be kind of a lie... I'll probably discuss Meryl Streep's acceptance speech at the Golden Globes because I think that is a powerful example of something women can be doing... and I will probably do a news segment. Basically... if there is something important to talk about that I feel well qualified to talk about, I will t
