Woman Owned Makeup Brand Challenge

So I wanted to post something on here for International Women's Day and I wanted to do a makeup look using woman owned brands (or that have a female founder) So... I thought I'd post it here instead of on my beauty blog.

showing a picture in my glasses because Benefit did an ad that had a woman in glasses and it said "yuck" and I like how I look in glasses... so yeah!

Face
I don't actually have a primer from a Woman Owned Brand... most of the Urban Decay founders are women and I do have a makeup forever primer and the founder of that is also a woman... but for the most part I use Smashbox... so I actually improvised and used the It Cosmetics CC Cream as a primer. This feels a little sticky... but I kind of like it. For foundation I used the Fiona Stiles Illuminating Foundation Concentrate. I love Fiona Stiles, she does makeup for celebrities, Lilly Collins is one of her clients... but she also takes the time to respond to instagram posts and she actually helped me use her foundation a little bit better... so Go Fiona Stiles! I'm still starstruck at that lol. Anyway I used that as my foundation. For blush I used my Becca Blushed with Light Palette... 90% sure Becca has a female founder... yes Trendmood did an interview with her so that's true lol. And for highlight I went in with my Makeup Geek Kathleenlights Highlight Palette and I used the shade Nightlight. Love this palette.

Eyes
I used the Nyx Jumbo Pencil in Milk as a primer... again 90% sure the Nyx founder is female. Then I used the Kat Von D Metal Matte palette. I used Twinkle all over the lid, Velvet in the crease and Synergy on the outer corner. On the browbone I used Linen. For eyeliner I lined my upper lashline and lower lashline with the Laura Gellar I Care Waterproof I pencil in Gunmetal and for mascara I used Bareminerals lash domination... I'm not sure this has a female founder... I think it said so on google... but currently I have that and Ulta's mascara opened and Ulta is not owned by a woman... so yeah.

Lips
I used the Jouer Matte Lip Cream in Dulce de Leche.

Brushes
Okay not all the brushes I used were woman owned... but I thought I would mention the ones that are. I used a Tarte Eyeshadow brush, an It Cosmetics for Ulta brush for the crease and a Real Techniques Blush Brush. I don't know if Real Techniques is female owned... the girls from PixiWoo are the spokespeople for it... but idk if they actually own it or not... but since there is so much female influence in the brand I thought it would be fitting.

Perfume
Usually I don't say what perfume... but I'm wearing Elizabeth and James Nirvana White, which is owned by The Olson Twins... so I thought I would mention that.

P.s- this is the video I got the idea for this challenge from. Go check out her channel! She is awesome!

Byeee!

Feminsit Movie Review- Amelie

So in March I think I'm going to try to watch a different movie every night... and if I think there's a feminist message in it- or if it was important to pop culture for women... I'll write about it! I'll start off with Amelie. I didn't really know what this movie was about... I just knew that it was in French, I thought it looked like a love story... and from the previews it looked beautiful and interesting. And I was right... kinda. What I thought was powerful about this movie from a feminist standpoint was that, even though it was a love story... that wasn't the focus of the movie at all. The focus was mostly on a strange girl that kept to herself most of the time and had a vivid imagination... even as an adult. Although she was quiet and didn't really interact with people... Amelie is quite a strong character. If she doesn't like someone, she'll do something about it right away and create a certain sense of justice. In contrast- if she does...

Why Catcalling Isn't Okay, and Why It's Okay Not To Like It

Today I went to the grocery store with my mom and grandmother and while we were checking out, some older man says “Ohhhh, Nice! Young Lady! Have Mercy," to me! I was really pissed!  The thing about catcalling though is that a lot of people kind of make it seem like its less of a big deal than it is and that women should be okay with it… And no one should have to be okay with being catcalled. Here are my reasons:   I wasn’t asking for it  A lot of times people shrug it off and say something like “Well if you dress like that you’re just asking for it.” Nope… I was wearing a sweater… a mock turtleneck actually, jeans, and a large peacoat. This isn’t any different than how I normally dress. I shouldn’t have to modify my dress for my safety… also I’m not sure how I could exactly be wearing anything more reserved. It’s a striped sweater with a slouchy turtleneck… I definitely wasn’t asking for it.  I was wearing makeup… but that’s another thing I do every da...

Feminist Review of Hamilton: An American Musical

I saw Hamilton last month and it was absolutely INCREDIBLE! I know there's a ton of hype to it right now... but trust me- it FAR exceeded the hype! I absolutely loved it! There are spoilers to some key visuals to the show  One of the best things about the musical was the way that it portrayed women in history. There are lots of women in history... but they're very underrepresented. History remembers Alexander Hamilton, but we don't remember Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton and all that she did for America also... this musical really shows everything that she did for America also.  If you've listened to the soundtrack till the very last song, you know how she pretty much dedicated her life to preserving her husband Alexander's legacy after he died. She made sure that his story was told, that his friends that fought by his side were remembered, she raised funds for the Washington Monument and established the first private orphanage in New York City. Eliza had what A...
