So... I don't really know if this is a feminist review or not... but I think this album is something super relatable even if you aren't britney spears... and it's just a really good one!
So there's no specific song on this that's a "Feminist" song the way that I can say "Hey Girl" is a feminist song... I just think there are lots of specifically female themes.
Most of the songs are about sex... which is something I think it does in kind of a powerful way. Britney Spears is a sex symbol... and in this album I think she embraces that title with a lot of pride. It's very apparent and it's very confident. And I feel like this would just kind of boost confidence when hearing it. Idk. There's nothing about different body types being sexy or not being sexy... which is something I'm noticing a lot with pop music now... there are lots of conflicting views of body image in pop songs... this isn't really like "Ohhh you don't look like this so you're not hot" it's just kind of fun pop music that isn't shaming anyone.
This was also a big comeback album for Britney and she gets a lot of feelings out. There's Out from Under which is kind of a sadder song for the cd... and My Baby, which is a beautiful song about motherhood that could probably make you cry... it's just like there are a lot of deep lyrics along with this very fun catchy pop songs.
So yeah I think the comeback is probably the most powerful that I know from a female in Pop Music. It really didn't seem like she could come back after her "head shaving" incident... but she really made a great comeback and I think this is her big "comeback" album that is what defines her. No one remembers the breakout now because this album is so freaking good!
Anyway... there probably isn't any real feminist message in this cd... I just reviewed it for my other blog and I liked it so much that I thought I'd review it here too... lol. But I feel like Britney is a great comeback story, great success story and her songs are pretty empowering to me... for being a fan of hers for about 24 hours give or take.
Lol. Look for my Throwback Thursday review on Scribbles About Life later... and I'll have something more world-changing on Tuesday maybe. Maybe not.
